In a landmark endorsement for Indian sports, the Commonwealth Sport Executive Board has recommended Ahmedabad, Gujarat, as the host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games, marking 100 years since the event's inception in Hamilton, Canada. This pivotal decision, announced on October 15, 2025, edges out competition from Nigeria's Abuja and sets the stage for India's second hosting after the successful 2010 Delhi Games. The final verdict rests with the General Assembly in Glasgow on November 26, 2025—a formality likely to cement Ahmedabad's role.

The recommendation follows a rigorous evaluation by the Commonwealth Sport Evaluation Committee, assessing criteria like technical delivery, athlete experience, infrastructure, governance, and alignment with values of affordability, sustainability, and inclusivity. Ahmedabad's bid, backed by the Governments of India and Gujarat alongside the Commonwealth Games Association of India, shone through its promise of world-class venues, including the Narendra Modi Stadium and emerging facilities like the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex. Likely spanning Ahmedabad and nearby Gandhinagar, the Games will feature multi-sport action across 72 nations, reviving dropped events from the pared-down 2026 Glasgow edition while emphasizing youth inspiration and long-term legacy.

Leaders hailed the news as a "proud milestone." Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated it as an endorsement of India's global sporting rise, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah called it a "day of immense joy." IOC member Nita Ambani linked it to India's 2036 Olympics bid, stating, "This moment marks another step forward towards our shared dream of bringing the Olympic Games to India." IOA President P.T. Usha envisioned the event as a "Games for the Future," fostering inclusivity and innovation en route to Viksit Bharat 2047. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel echoed the sentiment, vowing a showcase of a "confident, capable" new India.
